What bullet are you using and what is it's make up? Pure lead, 1:20 ?? What powder are you using? I have good success using the Mauser bullet at .446" in Rolling Blocks with over sized bores. Just so we are on the same page, when you say the bore diameter is .442" are you referring to the groove diameter?

If the bullet you used is .439" it MAY not bump up with smokeless powder. I try and shoot all my black powder rifles with Accurate 5744 powder and usually have success with accuracy. 5744 is not position sensitive in a case. With a light charge you will get good ignition without fillers. Those Rolling Blocks are difficult to measure the bore with odd # lands/grooves. And Remington was not real consistent with groove diameters. I have a few with grooves of approx. .448". I do use pyrodex RS with those rifles that will not bump up a 1:20 bullet properly. For a cleaning rod see "GS Womack" in the "parts" section of this site when you 1st open it up. He has what you need and will make one if he does not. You will have to let him know what the thread pattern is where the rod screws into the stud in the receiver as both fine and coarse threads were used. I'd suggest calling him to get that squared away. I don't bastardize Rolling Blocks by putting different sights on them. I empathize with the "sight picture". I'm pushing 64 and wear trifocals. I've found that a little cold blue on both sights help tremendously.
Good Luck!!! It will take some tinkering but, after you figure it out there is nothing but shooting ahead.
