The anchor was the mark of a Remington inspector and had nothing to do with the U.S. Navy. With a poly-choke, these guns languish in pawn shops at $150 to $180. With an unmolested barrel they sit at $225. I assembled my set in 12-, 16-, and 20-gauge, both the 12- and 16-gauges with solid ribs, back when the economy was much better then it is now for right at $600.

Your gun was made around the February/March 1930 time frame. The information is on this web site if people would just look!!

Model 11 Remington - Serial Number 414XXX

Post by JohnnyS »

Good morning, new guy here ... also looking for information on the Model 11. Thanks for the link to the serial numbers. My Model 11 was my grandfathers gun. Serial number 4144XX. Barrel marked W H on left side. Looks to me to have been produced likely during the last week of May 1939 if production was running smoothly. May 1 serial numbers started with 414486 and June 1 serial numbers at 415086 for a monthly production of right at 600 guns if the numbers are straight forth. Grandpa bought it new in either late 1939 or early 1940 if my family story line is true.

Grandpa was meticulous with his cleaning and I'm sure that the gun went back into the case well cleaned and properly lubed in the 1960's when it was last fired (that I can determine at least). I hunted one day with it on a pheasant hunt in South Dakota this year and killed the first rooster that rose to the challenge AND with the first shot fired from the gun since the 1960's. I had function tested it and lightly oiled the action prior to that first shot by the way. I missed a few times after that but did manage to complete my 3 bird limit before the day was out with the gun. What a thrill .... my grandfather would have been absoluted delighted with the day we had together. Rest in Peace my good friend and mentor.

Here's a photo of the firearm, my 6 year old Lab and that first bird.

Thanks .... not a bad way to bring an old gun back to life after a lot of years! And the dog had a career day as well working pheasants for me and several of the other hunters in the group all day long.
