The thread pitch on a Remington 550-1 sear cup/case is 3/8-32 NEF and the tap can be purchased on E-bay. I use a Taper Tap HSG H3 4FL made by REGAL Cutting Tools. Also you will need a Tap Guide like the V-TapGuide by Big Gator Tools which can be purchased from Brownells, INC. I have used these tools with great results. I found a 550-1 at a yard sale and the sear case on it looks also to be cross threaded all to hell. I am afraid to disturb it. Did you have any luck fixing the one you mentioned?
