Date code question

Post by petem »

I have a question regarding the date codes. I was looking at the chart and noticed the same letters being repeated. Specifically, I have a Model 700 BDL in .243 with a date code of "BZ." How do I figure out if the "Z" stands for 1975 or 2005? Thanks.

Easiest way without handling the rifle is, if there is a "A" prefix ahead of the serial number, its a '75. There are other changes as well, such as extractor rivet, checkering, and the original cost.

Thanks 600remguy. No "A" prefix. Since you mentioned the checkering, I compared it to my .30-06 with a "B" prefix which I believe was made in 1981. My .30-06 has a skip-line checkering and my .243 does not. Pete

Once we hit the newer ones, I'm lost. Your correct; "B"s started in 1980. Your descriptions sound right on.
