Rem Premier upland

Post by John Gyde »

I'm looking at one of the newer Rem Premier shotguns made in Italy. It sure is a pretty beast and the wood quality and wood to metal fit looks great. What's the experience??? It looks like Rem quit importing them. Why???

Oh, and the price is $1,100...

Hi John.

Darned if I know........ Looks like 2008 was the last time they appeared in the catalog.
Remington seems to have had problems keeping quality double guns in their lineup for at least the last 37 years. (I have a 3200 MC Trap which never had "the modification" made to it and I wasn't aware of what that was all about until just recently.) I don't know what Remington's problem is but it seems like the doubles only last a few years in their catalogs and then they go to some different designs and models.

The Italians seem to have been making some great firearms for many years. I have a 1968 vintage Savage 440 12 ga. O/U (26 in. Imp/Mod) that I bought new back then......it was apparently made by Fabarm and has probably been my favorite upland gun. It doesn't have some of the bells and whistles that the more recent ones have, but for $160 it has served me very well.

Anyway, your post intrigued me, so I did some searching to see who the manufacturer was and any comments about others' experiences. Sounds like they're well-made guns.

Rem's short marriage with other gunmakers is puzzling. I don't know why Rem went through this divorce...

I did buy a 20 ga. I liked the case color & gold birds better than the coined receiver. I haven't shot it yet, but the lower comb fits my face better than my other shotguns. There's still a 12 ga left at the store, but I think I'll leave it there. I did some internet research and found enough positive things to push me into the purchase.

Thanks for taking the time to answer and add the posts.
