Remington 1864

Post by Colred »

I have a rifle with the following inscriptions: Remington Ilion(?), NY
pat. dic 1862, may 3, nov 16, 1864.

Can anybody tell me something about this rifle?

Thanks for your attention

Carlos,
You need to give us more information. What type of action does this rifle have? Is it a rolling block single shot or a bolt action. I have some knowledge of rolling blocks. There were three different size actions in the rolling blocks. Any other information you can provide will help.

Actually I suspect it says Dec 23, 1863, Nov 16 1864. and it's a Remington Single Shot Breech-Loading Carbine. If it's a 46 of 50 caliber single shot rimfire this is correct. There are three types, which makes a significant difference in the value.

I also have a reingtom of this year. But it has no rings on it either. I believe it is a 50 Cal. That is no rings for a sling. The rest if the Gun is in perfect shape. When I figure out how to work this dam computer . I will post pictures :-)
