NOS 25 Rem Hollow Points

Post by CWarmouth »

Hey guys,
I just bought these old 25 Remington rounds. I didn't know until I got them that they are hollow points. Are these still available? I bet they would make a great hunting bullet wouldn't they?

Are "what" still available? The bullets themselves or the (complete) loaded rounds?

The only places to find the loaded rounds would be like the following three.

If you're looking for bullets for reloading, the following three would be the main ones for a tubular magazine, as they all have cannelures. For other magazine types, bolt actions or single loading in tubular magazine guns, one could use just about any .25 caliber bullet.

On a side note, I have a couple of .25-35 Winchester (Models 94 and 1894) rifles and my father also has one (1894) that my grandfather owned. Anyway, many years ago, I "acquired" some of the OLD ammo that my father had laying around......some were flat-nosed hollow points and some of the others were flat-nosed solids. The reason I "acquired" them was that I recognized that they were very rare and I was afraid that either he or my brother might actually shoot them up. I've kept them as "historic artifacts".
Some years back, I had some e-mail discussions with someone at Sierra Bullets and during the exchange, asked about whether adding a flat-nosed 117 gr. hollow-point .25 caliber bullet (with cannelure) would be feasible. (I gathered it would not be) Subsequently, I sort of lost interest in pursuing that option with some other manufacturer like Hornady or Speer........then I acquired a "significant number" of the Hornady 117 gr. round-nose bullets and lots of brass......before the prices skyrocketed.
I have experimented with a few other bullets, but pretty much settled on the 117 gr. RN as my load of choice.

I had some old hollow point ammo I used for deer hunting many years ago. The bullets had hardened over the years. I did manage to shoot a nice little whitetail (my first), but the exit hole in the chest was the same size as the bullet. It looked like a drill had bored a smooth hole in the ribs. Luckily I had a heart shot. A few days later I shot another round into some sand. No expansion. The message is that even if you could find some old ammo, I sure wouldn't use it for hunting. Modern reloaded bullets should work just fine.
