I have a 14A that I picked up rather inexpensively, certainly not collector grade. Being .30 Rem ammo is hard to come by I have thought about changing it over to a .35.
Does anyone have any experience with this? There are differences in the cartridge dimensions but the OAL is just about the same (2.52 vs. 2.525. the .35 is the shorter), are the internals on the gun different to feed the different cartridges? Numerich lists a different action bar for the .30 and .35, is everything else the same?
thanks,
Rob

Not if you load/reload your own. (and you should)Recoil Rob wrote:I have a 14A that I picked up rather inexpensively, certainly not collector grade. Being .30 Rem ammo is hard to come by I have thought about changing it over to a .35.

.30 Rem. cases are readily available.

You'd be looking at enormous costs for the gunsmithing services to convert it. For that much money, you could buy LOTS of .30 Rem. brass AND the reloading equipment (if you don't have it already).
Yes, there are many dimensional case differences.

OK, thanks for smacking some sense into me. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Rob!
The other two postings were "right on" with their advice and were accurate about how readily available brass and dies are in .30 Remington. Your question on the conversion of a .30 Cal M14 to .35 would involve replacing the following:
Action Bar (with proper loading door), Magazine Tube, Follower, Bolt, and Barrel (as was indicated a re-bore of a .30 would not be safe), and most probably a cartridge stop.
Frames and trigger groups can be interchanged but why go to all the trouble when you can buy a decent .35 for less money than converting and end up with two cool guns.
