40X Question

Post by c3006 »

This is my first post here and as many others before me I am sure,I am looking for help. I have this Remington 40X in 220 swift that I got in a trade. I know nothing about them except I put a leupold 24x scope on it and shot 10 rnds inside a inch with no problem. It has a unmarked 1.250 26" barrel I was wondering if was stock and I also dont ever remember seeing that bolt release knob on one before and was wondering about that. Thanks for any help in advance. c

Your barrel does not look factory, and I have never seen a knob like that myself on the side of the action.

Yes thats me Ive been over there trying to learn a little about these rifles. I am amazed at the accuracyof this rifle but unless you were competing with it I can see no usefull purpose for it. As lite as the trigger is I can see why they want the bolts out for saftey. Thanks c

That is definitely a built rifle. Bolt stop and barrel. How much "under" 1" are the groups? A swift ought to shoot under .5" at 100yds in its prime. Swift barrels are shot out rather quickly. I had a 722 barreled like that huge long barrel in 6mm. 3/8" groups were on the bad side. With only a 10x scope and my polished original trigger, 1/4" groups were common. On second thought, it could have been a Canjar trigger. But I never used the Canjar set feature. Inside the trigger is just like an original.

All the bullets touched in one ragged hole but the were probably right at a inch as they were scattered around. I was shooting a old box of reloads from several years ago that I just grabed up to try out. It was windy and I was not really trying that hard. I have never had great luck with swifts in the past,I allways had that one bullet that wanted to stray out of a 5 shot group.
