Newcomer to Model 31 with question

I saw a decent Model 31 in a gun store toay. I am completely unfamiliar with this model. I noticed a hole drilled into the underside of the barrel near the receiver. Is this standard? Thanks.

All of mine have that little flat bottom hole under the chamber end of the barrel. I have no idea what they are for.
