Is this a Remington or an old Swede Carbine modified by Rem?

Post by zoey123 »

Hi everyone...I'm new here, and I know a picture is worth a 1000 words, but not sure how to post pics here ?....I've researched for a few days now., but cant seem to nail down a rifle I purchased at an estate sale.... ..I took a lot of pics and I have it listed on ebay...Item #200361380583 ....I originally thought it was an 1895 Mauser, but I now think it may be a Swede m94 Carbine modified by Remington......... The barrel (17.4" long with a large male threaded end that measures just under 1" diameter) does not extend that few inches past the metal tip as seen on the mauser. It just slips through the metal tip for a nice flush fit (the last taper of the barrel is 5/8" outer diameter) and there is no sight on the barrel tip. The diameter of barrel tip opening is approx. 1/4" diameter. The barrel is stamped with a crown as well as "CO" (with 2 dots above the O)....the front strap hanger (it holds that top piece of wood down) also has that same crown stamp and "382" below it. The total length of the rifle is approx. 37.5". The rear strap hanger on the stock is a few inches closer to where the trigger would be as compared to the Mauser (which is about half way down on the butt)
I have plenty of pics, on the ebay listing....any help with that, or identifying rifle would be appreciated... Thanks in advance!

Remington had absolutely nothing to do with the M1894 Swedish Mausers. The buttplate isn't original so the markings are irrelevant.
