Gentlemen:
I have a Remington rolling block rifle of ~.44 or .46 caliber, single shot, with rifled barrel;
Inscription on the metal aft of the hammer reads: "Remingtons, Ilion, NY USA"
"AT Pat. May3rd Nov.15th 1864 April 17th 186_(?)"
(Note: Remingtons really is plural here)
On the port (left) side on the steel band, just forward of the flip-up sight, is the letter "U".
On the left side of metal breech assembly is stamped a king's crown.
The barrel is ~22" (55cm) long, with overall length of ~38" (96cm). Weight is ~5.5 lbs.
The rear sight is military type, with numbering from 1 to 10 (1000 yds.?)
Front sight is simple pin, with a horizontal hole (1/8") drilled transversly.
There are fittings for a simple sling.
No other letter or number markings found.
If anyone knows the history of this firearm, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.
I haven't been able to post a picture yet, but in looks it is similar to the old Model 4.
Thanks, and best regards,
Stan

Re: Remington rolling block, .44 cal.
Sounds like one of the Remington carbines of the #1 variant. A #4 was a small frame in .22 or .32 RF. Does it have a saddlering on the left side, or any signs of studs where the saddlering bar might have been removed?
Re: Remington rolling block, .44 cal.
Yes, it has a saddlering on the port (left side) with a smaller eye-ring on the bottom of the stock. It is definitely .44 or .46 caliber.
Thanks for your reply.
