#1 1/2 or Not Again--Take a Gander

Post by Yellowhouse »

The guy said the action is a 1 1/2 (don't know what he based that on) yet said it measured 1.24 and the lower tang is longer which is characteristic of a #1 sporter!

The fact that its in .32 RF plus it doesn't have the usual contoured wood of a #1 spooks me. Doesn't have a metal fore end tip either. Serial in the 12xxx range.

What do you think?

Not a #1 1/2, as it's got the rebated receiver. A 1 1/2 has a flat sided receiver, and as you mentioned not the longer lower tang. Before the #1 1/2 came out the .32 RF would have been on the #1, but later only on the #1 1/2. That one might go cheap in the .32 RF caliber, regardless of whether it was a #1 or a #1 1/2.

The gun is a Model No.1 not a Model No. 1-1/2. It looks just like my rifle which has a receiver thickness of 1.22" to 1.24". Its the 2nd rifle from the top, would up load more photo's of mine, but the files are to large to down load. My rifle is in 32 long rimfire. When I want to shoot the gun I replace the rimfire breech block with a centerfire one. I use 32 long colt centerfire cases filled with approximately 12 grs of black powder and a heel cast lead bullet. The bore in my rifle is worn and pitted, but it will still shoot a 3" group at 50 yds. Dont know a lot about the sporting rifles, I collect the military rolling block rifles, carbines and pistols, but I think you could of bought the gun with or with out the metal forearm cap. Could be wrong on that, I just don't know.

THANKS! I'm learning more...slowly but you guys sure help a lot! That flat side or rebated receiver I didn't know about. I can see what you mean by looking at RemGuys baby carbine. Kinda like a highwall vs low wall effect? However, it doesn't stand out so much as on this purported 1 1/2. http://www.auctionarms.com/search/displ ... um=9011034

OK, I think my dumb one cell kicked in on what rebated means. On the 1 1/2 the action where the barrel screws in is flat. On the #1 it is of smaller diameter than the rest of the action.

Rebated is the step on the side of Sporting Rifles. Not found on military or other round top models. The 1 1/2 doesn't have this step, but is just flat sided.
