Greetings,
Was here decade+ ago.
At that time I brought up this same subject and know a fella here from England knew something about it.
Here we go-
I have an original BP 1858 Remington pistol. I was at the Tulsa Gun Show and found it along with a .22 conversion. I bought them both then bought another identical conversion and learned from the British fella that there were 3 known conversions.
The conversions are devoid of any markings, patina matches the pistol. This conversion is non-destructive, no modification of the pistol is required- cylinder, front breech block and sub caliber barrel inserts from the muzzle and threads into the breech block- the muzzle end is octagon end that perfectly matches the barrel of the pistol. 3 total parts.
I send one of them to Mr. Krist of Krist Konvertors to make a copy or close enough (ya’ll have seen them and they are nothing like the original -barrel inserts inserts from the breech end) but the way he did it it kept cost down so anyone could have one which was my intention. I am looking for any information relevant to the original conversions. Any other sources, written material I can access. This is one of those times when HUMANS beat the heck out of AI. Let’s see if I can post some pictures Thank you in advance, Mark
