I recently acquired a single shot 40XB heavy 27.5” stainless steel barrel. The barrel has REP proof on right side and 7.62 NATO and a diamond symbol on the left. There is no two letter code on the barrel. Is the heavy stainless steel barrel a Remington barrel?
Serial number is 38290B
Trigger weight is eight ounces with no safety. It has a wide flat bottom stock that is missing an eight inch forend rail on the inletted bottom.
Any idea on what year this came out of the Custom Shop?
40XB centerfire date of manufacture
Re: 40XB centerfire date of manufacture
The serial number and markings should give someone familiar with the 40-XB records a good starting point, but I’d be cautious about putting an exact year on it from the information here. The lack of a two-letter date code is interesting, especially with the REP proof and 7.62 NATO markings. I’d post clear photos of the barrel markings, receiver, and stock/inletting if possible. Someone who has seen the Custom Shop 40-XB variations may be able to tell whether that stainless heavy barrel and stock configuration are original Remington or a later/custom combination.
