Carlos Gove?

Post by Mlschnei »

Greetings everyone.
Newbie here, thanks for the add.

I bought a rifle recently that is hard for me to identify.
It was auctioned as a Carlos Gove Attributed
Remington No1 50-70 Govt.
The description notes the lever action, the forend tip,
and a C. Gove “pineapple” signature stamp located on
underside of barrel, beneath the cleaning rod as proof.
No other marks found, including SNs, but from what I
found, it was not uncommon for serial numbers to be
present on this old of gun.

I have tried to attach a few pics (more available if needed).
Please let me know what you think.

Martin

I know you've posted this same gun several other places, and I can only address what I know from Gove guns in my collection. None have this "Pineapple" stamp on any of my guns, and all of mine have Gove's stamp on them which is simply, "C GOVE DENVER, CO." Or on my shotgun it's C. GOVE on each lock plate, and the full marking on the top rib. But the shotgun is very early, and before Gove had a stamp, so all markings are engraved.

On the Gove Under Levers shown in Marcot's Rolling Block book it shows the stamp is C GOVE with the DENVER, CO. below his name. I don't see any "pineapple stamp on any of those either? Doesn't mean yours isn't a Gove, as I'd never say never.
