Skinner sight on 1900?

Post by simoned »

New to me 1900 KD with barrels cut to 24". Broken stock too, so no harm done in restoration.
Any suggestions as to why there would be a plug screw in the top rib? Does it look like there was a repair to the rib? Any antique versions of an express or ghost ring rear sight?

Repair for a loose or lifted rib. Screw is threaded down between the barrels. OK repair if done correctly. Hang barrels by lump and tap. I will venture they will not ring.

I'd vote for a small rear sight. Looks like when the screw notch was filed into a V the file marked the rib extension a bit.

Looks like a good candidate for Cowboy Action shooting after being inspected by a smith
