REM Model 600

Post by Rem 700 »

I recently purchased a model 600 350 Mag and a model 600 308. I’m aware of the massive recall issued reference the triggers. Apparently major safety hazard. I cannot find any information regarding affected rifles and have kinda reached the end of the road. RemArms directed me to several dealers but none have access to the actual rifles recalled and just wanted me to send them the rifles to inspect triggers. No reason to do that if not recalled. I do not see any markings on triggers or barrel indicating repair. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I cannot let my son use these without knowing! Below is what I know…
350 Mag barrel stamp is CM and then maybe 41. Serial #42464. I’m thinking made April 1965
308 Win barrel stamp is OL and then maybe 41as well
Serial #17451. I’m thinking made July 1964

Thanks again for any help. Jason

It was basically all of the modern rifles, "...Remington Model 700, Seven, Sportsman 78, 673, 710, 715, 770, 600, 660, XP-100, 721, 722, and 725 firearms containing a Remington trigger mechanism that utilizes a trigger connector...".

The claim period has long since passed, if the trigger has not been replaced then the burden is now on the rifle's owner. Include "Walker Trigger" in your searches for additional info.

Aftermarket triggers are available, here is a link for one, https://timneytriggers.com/remington-600/

Thank you! I think I’ll just pull the triggers and see what is in there. Hopefully a local dealer can decipher defective trigger.

These triggers come under great scrutiny. Safe handling always trumps everything. Of the many I have and know of, I've never seen the proof to make me concerned. The one and only thing to remember is to keep these triggers clean clean clean. Did I say to keep them clean. And dry! NO oil. Dry lube only. And do NOT let residue left in the barrel after cleaning of for storage run into the chamber and down into the trigger. These cleaning fluids and oils combine to make a shellac type substance that will be hard and jam the fine workings. I got a none working rifle for a good price because the bolt wouldn't cock properly. I had to soak the trigger in gun scrubber (brake cleaner) a few times to rid it of the shellac and brought it back to life. I overload for the 35Rem with its original trigger and have no problem with it. By all means, swap the trigger if you please.
