Unusual Model 31 question

Post by umoxford »

I have a 16 ga. model 31 that I believe to have been maufactured in the early 40's but there are 3 letters on the barrel rather than 2. The letters are KJL. Anyone have an idea as to why the 3 letters rather than 2 and what it means?

The frame was made in 1940.Feb.. The frame was made in 1937. I do not know the significance of the "L". Jay

Thank you for your help. I have looked as closely as I can at the other mark. It's in a place that Remington describes as an assembly number but it looks like an L but could be something else. Is it unusual for the barrel and frame to have different manufacturing dates? They have the same serial number.

Thanks again for your time.

The barrel was probably in inventory. The serial number is added when the two parts are assembled, Jay
