Model 14 - 25 Remington
Model 14 - 25 Remington
Got a model 14. It has a major bulge just past the receiver. Does any one know of anyone that might be able to replace the barrel and do a restoration? Turnbull doesn’t do Remington work.
Re: Model 14 - 25 Remington
Barrel replacement is not that difficult if you know what you are doing but finding a replacement barrel in .25 Remington is most certainly going to be your biggest problem. Without seeing pictures of your rifle I would say offhand it isn't worth much except for parts and at the most you might get $300 if it has decent wood and a wheel sight.
A Turnbull "type" restoration on a Model 14 would certainly run at least $3,000-4,000 and question why anyone would want to put that much into a Model 14. An easy fix would be to convert it to .30 Caliber (requiring a barrel, possibly a magazine tube, and the brass cartridge head).
All of the other internals would work with a .30 Caliber or .32 for that matter and it would not be a cheap fix but at least reasonable. As far as a full blown restoration, there is probably someone out there willing to try but he would probably lose some of your key parts while taking it apart and then put some awful glossy blue on it instead of the rust blue used on these rifles. I do modest restoration work (I don't do wood but rather send it out to someone that knows how to properly refinish).
Hope this was helpful!

I really need a barrel. If you heard of one let me know. I have a 30, 32, and 35. Also a really nice 12.
