REMINGTON M 11 FOR SURE

Post by GUSRENTIT »

Ok,, I have a M 11, 12 Gauge,, BUT the only #s I can find on it, are on the bottom of the barrel on the mounting ring and it matches the # on the bottom of the receiver, also on the left side of the barrel it says "FULL", on the bottom of the barrel closest to the receiver it has an "R" stamped, the top says the usual "REMINGTON, ARMS CO. ILION, NY, USA, BROWNING'S PATENTS OCT. 9, 1900. DEC. 17/01. SEPT. 30.02 JUNE 16.03. (I made no mistakes, those are the exact stampings). The serial #s stamped on the barrel ring and the bottom of the receiver are 51 24 3 (with that spacing). It works flawlessly, and best I can tell it has never been refinished and is in great condition overall for it's age,, THAT is the question,, when was it made,, I have looked over the Remington serial #s and cannot find serial #s that low. Can anyone help me find the date of manufacture?
Thanks Much

You have a Remington Autoloading Gun, the John M. Browning designed autoloader that Remington introduced in 1905. In 1911 Remington Arms Co. was combined with Union Metallic Cartridge Co. as Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co. and they began calling this gun the No. 11. In that your gun says Remington Arms Co. it was made between 1905 and 1910. In 1920 the company became Remington Arms Co., Inc. and in 1934 controlling interest in Remington was acquired by DuPont. The catalogue bounce around calling the gun the Model No. 11, or just the No. 11, and finally about 1929 they actually settle down to using Model 11.

In June 1907, barely two years after its introduction, Mr. Jefferson J. Blanks of Trezevant, Tennessee, won The Grand American Handicap shooting a Remington Autoloading Gun.

Remington must have made quite a few Autoloading Guns during that time frame as this is one of the most common questions on this site.
