Re: Sportsman Model - need info
The Sportsman was a three-shot variation from the Model 11, introduced around 1930, just about the time Remington Arms Co., Inc. added 20- and 16-gauges to their autoloading shotgun lineup. Up to about 1936, The Sportsman was made with three birds roll-stamped on each side of the receiver. After that it was reduced to one bird on each side and they started putting the roll stamp on the Model 11 receivers as well -- a Duck on the left side and a Pheasant on the right side. Serial numbers of Model 11/The Sportsman 20-gauge guns began at 1,000,000 and 16-gauges at 1,500,000. The market seems to be pretty weak for thes old square-back Remingtons. I have right at $600 in my set of three, and the 16- and 12-gauges are solid rib guns.
They still do the job though -- this is my 26-inch improved cylinder 16-gauge -- Remington didn't want to be accused of not giving one enough choke as it has .011"!!!

It looks like that dog is saying - forget about the gun, don't mess with the birds.
Those are some pretty big phesants.
Not like the road chickens that the PGC stocked around my house.
