A rotary extractor kind of points to a rare #5 sporter...even rarer with a SST.

Don't throw that barrel away whatever you do. http://www.remingtonsociety.com/forums/ ... f=4&t=4203

No way is it a 5. Had a memory lapse on the rotary extractor among other details. First, a 5 would not have the rebated receiver and importantly the serial is that of a 1. The five has its own unique serialization. Nope, you have a Number one thats been worked over a bit. Prominent is that the breech block seems to be counter bored to accept the rim.

The breech block has been cut to accept a plug to bush the firing pin hole. I have one that has had that done to it. A good rolling block gunsmith can finish the job for you.

Also it uses the standard sliding bar extractor with a retaining screw in the side of the receiver. Nice receiver. Are there any markings on the barrel?
