SNY .50-70 rolling block musket
Re: SNY .50-70 rolling block musket
Benvenuto, Hi I am new here but have been shooting and collecting black powder guns for 30years. I have a NYS contract musket also. I got mine from my wifes uncle in 1991. He gave it to me for working on his car in lew of a $100.00 WHAT A DEAL!!!! It was purchased by his mother (my wifes grandmother) for him at an estate auction in the late 50s' for $1.00, so the family story goes. It is in nice shape and a hoot to shoot!!! Now to your problem, it will be very difficult to find a breech block for your rifle, but not impossible. I Think a good welder and machenist could weld a new tab on your block though, might be costly? I would check into having the barrel re-lined, there are a lot of "smiths that do this here in the States and liners are readily available. Good luck on this project and hope you save the "ol girl!!! ...Ed

Oh, about that "atrocious' trigger pull, after making sure the trigger sear and notch are honed smooth you can replace the trigger spring with a lighter one. I used a "wire" core out of an automotive choke cable, lawn mower control cables are the same , very eay job....Ed
