Re: mod 11 16ga shell length?
From its introduction in 1931, the 16-gauge Remington Model 11 and the three-shot version The Sportsman were made for 2 3/4 inch shells. In fact, Remington has never made a pump or autoloader for shells shorter than 2 3/4 inch. While the "standard" North American 16-gauge shell was still put up in a 2 9/16 inch shell in the 1930s, including Remington Arms Co., Inc.'s Nitro Express, Remington brought out a special 2 3/4 inch 16-gauge shell for these guns called the Auto-Express.
