Greetings all:
I was looking at a Model 760 mfg'd circa 1954, and noticed that the outside circumference of the butt plate was colored gold.
Any thoughts/comments? Does that sound original/correct??
TIA

I believe that the original ones were metallic and painted, and that they could have been made out of brass. / who knows, who cares?
The first models were not the most popular and are not really a collectors grade - the chances of finding a collectors grade Deluxe BDL is extremely rare.
Those guns were made to be used, abused / rode hard and put away wet. The stocks were very plain - no RKW finish, the dust covers were metal and jingled when you walked and the trombone slide tubes were hideous and made the forearms bulky and ugly.

Call me a traditionalist, but the early ones are the only ones I'm interested in...don't want a plastic dust cover, etc.. Want one to supplement my 141s, and think I've located a nice example. The Gamemaster wrote:I believe that the original ones were metallic and painted, and that they could have been made out of brass. / who knows, who cares?

I've since been able to view several 760s, and have noted the gold color on two; albeit minor traces. As you indicated, I now believe they were originally painted, and over time most of the paint wore/flaked off.
Thanks!

the gold color is actually the same finish that is on the buttstock. thats one of the ways you can tell its original finish. most are flaking but some have a lot of finish on the side. if you see one thats scrubbed clean, its a good chance it was refinished.
and for the record i think the older ones are quite nice and not clunky as another poster stated. i have several from the 50's and love them. if you find a early gun in good, original shape for a reasonable price, buy it. i do.

Sounds great! I do and will.
I've got my "sights" on a really nice one which I'll hopefully have by next week. And now that I'm ready to part with the $$ for that one...wouldn't you know 2 sweet 141s have suddenly caught my eye!
I want them all.
Thanks
