Rolling Block no. 1 Sporting .22 cal - Is this common?
Re: Rolling Block no. 1 Sporting .22 cal - Is this common?
The earliest ad I can find is a Remington ad dated Sept. 7, 1872 for the 22 rf as a standard caliber for the No. 1. The 22 was listed in every catalog I have seen after that date. Many 22 caliber No. 1's in the high serial numbers like yours have survived. Remington barrel lengths are seldom exactly on the money so to speak so yours could be original unless the reliner took off a bit to even the muzzle. I would not make a guess as to value without having it in my hands. The relining did not help the value. The No. 1 in 22 is on the heavy side so most people bought a No. 2 which was not available until December, 1872. Ed
