This non-takedown #4 (ser. no. 94xxx) is in my brother-in-law's estate. Are the tang peep sight and flip-up globe front sight genuine Remington factory options? Do they add value beyond what one could find in Fjestad? Will such details be covered in the forthcoming "Remington Rolling Block Sporting & Target Rifles"?
What is the purpose of the loop on the head of the bolt that serves as the axle for the flip-up tang sight?

Those are Lyman sights. They were both optional equipment on Rem. rifles, but not standard. The front is the Lyman combination sight and the rear a Lyman #1. The loop on the right side is to adjust the sight to vertical for different tang angles. These are both very nice options for any gun, but rear tang sights for Rem. spacing are extra nice finds! If that tang sight is the correct 1.90" spacing, then it's a valueable option. If it's not the correct spacing, then it's most likely not factory installed.
