Hepburn Military LR Creedmoor

Hepburn Military LR Creedmoor,

I'm looking for help to identify if I have the model that I think I have. From what reference books I have found it appears to be correct, however there are a few things that I'm not sure about. Most references say they were chambered in 44/77 or 44/75 and I found one that said 44/85. My chamber cast is 2.7 /2.8 case length.
If any one can help I sure would appreciate it.

Thank you,

Based on your measurements its not the 44-77 (2.25). Not much help here cause the 44-90 Sharps was 2 5/8 long (2.62)and the big Remington 44 was 1/16 shorter (2.44) so both the BN's are out I guess. Is it straight or bottleneck? The 44-90 & 44-100 Remington straights were 2.6 in. long.

May need more measurements such as rim diam, etc.

Dear Mike,

Finding a No.3 Hepburn Military Target Rifle chambered for .44-85 does not surprise me. E. Remington & Sons made so very few of these rifles that I'm sure they would chamber one exactly to the customer's specifications.

Factory production records no longer exist, so we cannot go to official factory records to verify this.

All in all, you have a very rare rifle.

All my best,
