Sounds like fun. I had one of my rollers out last weekend also. I took my 44-77 to the rifle range and shot around 25 cartridges. My shoulder is alittle sore. Sure was fun though.

Fun with the old girl
Re: Fun with the old girl
JReed,
Glad to hear that you finally got a chance to shoot your gun. It was nice of your new friends to let you shoot some of their rounds, were they smokeless or filled with blackpowder. Sounds like you had fun at 100 yds, but need more rounds to sight the gun in at 200 yds. The New York National Guard in the 1880's were shooting off hand at targets at the Creesmore Range from 150 to 300 yds at a 8-inch bull's-eye with a 26-inch center, using the same miliatry sights, so thay can be made to shoot.
Now you make me want to get my rolling block 45-70 out to do some shooting, but we will be getting up to 5-inches of snow tomorrow, so it might be a couple of months before I get a chance to go to the range. Will have to try some targets out at 200 yds to see if I have any better luck. Let us know if you make it back to the range.
Best of luck in shooting,
Matt

JReed, This #1 has the rear combination open & peep, the front is a globe. I have been trying to figure out where this globe came from. It kinda looks like a gunsmith made it way back then. The tube is 3/8 by about 1"with a thin post screwed in from the bottom.
I just found an old beach to replace it with.
