Remington Model 17
Remington Model 17
My Remington Model 17 was handed down from my grandfather to his father and now to me. The gun is in excellent working order and shoots great. The only item missing is the butt plate. My father does not know what happened to it. The serial number on the receiver and barrel match, the blueing is faded and most of the finish has worn off over the years. The barrel is a full choke, has the factory "REP" marking on the right side and the letter "CU" on the left sign behind the serial number (44081). What do the numbers "CU" mean? Are there any companies that make aftermarket butt plates? I would like to obtain an original butt plate and screws if possible. Any help offered would be greatly appreciated.

I do not know what the CU stands for. I would check Service/PARTS right side of the home page this site for a butt plate. Jay Huber RSA

C stands for April and U for 1927 as a date code on your barrel. By the old factory ledger available on this web site, your gun was in production in February 1927 -- http://www.remingtonsociety.com/rsa/questions/FR23
