Does Any One Know About Rifles Prior to 1845?
Does any one out there know which long barrel gun, rifle, or musket would have been used in Texas in 1845? What would the U.S. military have been using at that time? I just need a model and briefest of descriptions. Any relative information would be highly appreciated!
Re: Does Any One Know About Rifles Prior to 1845?
The most common infantry arm would have been the Model 1822 Springfield/Harpers Ferry flint musket, though some units may have received the new Model 1840 flint musket. The Dragoons had percussion Hall Patent breech loading carbines. The new percussion muskets, the Model 1842, weren't produced in sufficient quantity to see widespread use in 1845--but did see use in the Mexican War.
