Two things I noticed real quick like. The wood looks like plain old "A" grade wood. I don't think the factory used silver inlays and the engraving does not look like other factory engraving I have seen. Is is nicely done and is worth something. I could be wrong about the silver, but the only inlays I know of are gold.

In my opinion the engraving is not factory. The wood is not facory. From the pictures, the job is nicely done. If you were to find an engraver, and have the same work done today, the work would cost you much more than $500. The shotgun alone is worth a good percentage of your $500. If you want facory, this isn't it.

That gun screams post WW-II occupation engraving some GI got done cheap. With those big inlays, more likely in Japan then Germany. As for the stock, the style of the cheekpiece and the grip looks Bishop to me. Don't recall ever seeing a forearm like that before. In the mid-1970s in Alaska I shot with an Air Force half colonel who had a 20-gauge Model 12 Winchester engraved in the same style as this Sportsman.

The boys at Ilion certainly did make F "Premier" Grade versions of The Sportsman. The Cabelas in Post Falls recently had a vent rib Skeet barrel 20-gauge Sportsman F. I went over it with a magnifying glass to see if Bob Runge signed it but I couldn't find a signature.
