Beach from sight

Post by Cwc »

I’m planning to build a RB that is as close as possible to the early sporting rifles. For sights I would like the combination rear and Beach front. It looks like MVA makes a reasonable reproduction of the combination rear.

Do you guys have any suggestions for sourcing the Beach front sight? I’ve seen several vendors selling a reproduction made by Pedersoli, but it’s made of brass, while I believe the original was steel with a gold color applied. Is anyone making a better reproduction?

Go back and look at MVA again! They also sell a nice copy of the Combination front sights too! And if you want a closer copy you can even order it with the wide dovetail base that Remington used! Mine are all around that .469" dovetail size, but when I'm building a modern off an original action I use .375" dovetails to make sight choices easier.
Depending on what your rifle will be used for the Combination sight may or may not be the best choice. They're good for plinking or hunting, but as you stretch shots out further they don't give as good a sight picture as is needed for midrange or long range shots. For those I prefer a globe sight with changeable apertures.
