.32 Remington Elliot's Patent Repeater - Help Needed

Good day Everyone,

Before I jump into questions, just a quick introduction since I'm new here My name is Sergey and I'm from Ottawa, Canada. I've just started my antique firearms journey with main focus being handguns. Due to somewhat limited budget I'm not shy of buying fixer uppers, and one of my recent purchases is Elliot's patent Remington four shot repeating pistol in .32 RF. And that's where the fun part begins

I tried to go through as many posts as possible here trying to find not just drawings (which I did find), but the actual pictures of this pistol internals and possibly blueprints. As many other examples of this pistol, mine has its ratchet broken and therefore the firing pin won't rotate. It looks like someone already attempted fixing it in the past, without much success and probably making things even worse. I'm attaching a picture of the part in question where you can see the "wings" ground off or something. Also attached are a picture of the pistol for reference, and my cardboard version of the part

Ideally it would be nice to find a replacement for this part, but I suspect it may rather become a life long search So instead, I'm thinking of making a new one, but for that I either need blueprints or measurements taken from the actual part.

So my question is rather simple Is there someone who can help me with either finding blueprints or at least proving a real life picture of this part to give me an idea, and possibly measurements if it's not too much to ask for?

Hi Patbar,

The cost of having any part made could easily cost more than the gun is worth. Look for another Elliot with a damaged exterior, but working prpberly. It may take years, so my recommendation is to toss it into a box and hope that you find a nice, working Elliot if that is what you want. also, never buy a parts gun hoping to "fix it up." You will expend a lot of time and money trying to find other parts. You are always better off buying a working gun.

Hi Dan,

Thank for your reply! My intent is to make this part myself, so cost in this particular case is not an issue. I enjoy the process of bringing things back to life, and buying this fixed upper was an informed decision. I could have done more thinking though on how hard finding drawings or blueprints could be. But that's okay, I will figure this out. And if I fail so be it. We don't always win I will update this thread one way or another.

Hi Sergay,

If you're really determined to do it yourself, consider buying the same model in excellent condition, and take it apart! you can get dimensions directly off of an original with little wear. Once the bad pistol is working, you can sell the one that served as your pattern.

If you know someone in a computer controlled machine shop, they can scan the parts that you need to make. Maybe make the parts by machining, or 3-D printing. About 10 years ago I had a rare pistol with a missing screw. A friend with one of the same pistols loaned a screw. The project took about 4-5 months, because small jobs like mine had to be fitted into their schedule. The cost of scanning the screw, and setting up the machine that would make the screw cost $100, plus I had to pay another $100 to have the screws made. I had 10 screws made to lower the cost per screw. I did sell 3 of the screws.

Hi Dan,

Thanks again for your time and suggestions. I wish I knew someone in machine shop business, but I'm afraid I'm on my own this time Good news, they somehow managed to build these things 150 years ago without computers, so I'm staying positive. I have a small 3D printer for prototyping, just need to find time and get started.
