I bought a model 700 when I was a young man. I'm now 59 and I noticed the barrel is stamped stainless steel but it's blued. I can't seem to find out any information from the serial number.
6375918. The barrel also seems to have a cross, R, T and 65 stamped on it. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Information on a Model 700
Remington offered the M700 with a blackened/blued finish on top of a stainless barrel. They started with stainless with the Model 721 and carried it into the M700. The earliest stainless was not even marked as such. A layer of copper was added on top of the stainless then an iron plating applied to the copper, this was followed by the bluing such as on your rifle.

The extra markings (cross, R, T, 65) might be inspection or proof marks, but those can be tricky to track down without a catalog.geometry dash wrote:

That’s likely a stainless barrel that was factory-coated or blued to reduce glare—Remington did that on some Model 700 runs. The “RT” and “65” are probably inspection or batch/date codes rather than part of the serial. You might get a precise manufacture date by contacting Remington Arms or checking with the Remington Society.Shooterir wrote: Thu Nov 27, 2025 12:11 pm @dinosaur game I bought a model 700 when I was a young man. Okay, that's a real head-scratcher! A stainless barrel blued? That's not something you see every day. Serial number lookup usually provides answers, weird it doesn't in this case. The stamps on the barrel could be proof marks or manufacturing codes, perhaps specific to a certain production run or custom order. Seems like you have a bit of a mystery on your hands!Shooterir wrote: Thu Nov 27, 2025 12:11 pm
