Cuban marking on rolling block?

Some years ago a post on this forum speculated that the crown over RV mark occasionally seen on rolling block receivers or barrels indicates ownership by pro-Spanish Cuban volunteers during the 1868-1878 Ten Years War. Has this ever been confirmed or at least generally accepted?
