Just wanted to share phase one of my 1929 model 14. Made a custom barrel length magazine tube. One round in the chamber, one in the action bar and six in the tube.
I picked up two Remington model 14 magazine tubes from ebay and a Marlin 1894 magazine tube. The Marlin tube was heated until orange, then had a mandrel(transfer punch) matching the O.D. of the model 14 tubes driven 3" into it. A 2.5" section was cut off to join the two model 14 sections. Then brazed together
A Model 141 multi section magizine tube end was utilized so the brush guard section could be flipped over. The forend required slight modification with a dremel carbide cutter to allow the larger O.D. of the modified magizine tube.
A reproduction magizine tube spring from Numrich was needed to make it run properly from a full load and down to the last round. I took it out for a 3 mile woods hike with the dogs today. The balance feels good while carrying and shouldering. Very happy with the results.
I also fit a Marbels fiber optic front sight and their bullseye rear sight(almost ghost ring type).
Next phase will be turning into a left hand safety then bead blasting and putting a parkarized type finish on.
I picked this rifle up from a little shop in PA last September with my C&R license. Someone had gotten a tad carried away with a buffing wheel at some point and then hot tank blued it. The edges and roll stamping's were washed out. Making this a great candidate for a customized build.
My plan for this rifle is a quick target acquisition marsh/creek bottom deer hunting rifle. The 200gr 35 Remington rounds are decent medicine for such work.
