Found a used Remington New Model Army with matching serial numbers. 88,781
Because of the high serial number, would these be used in the civil war?
Thanks all -
Remington #88,781, New Model Army 44

Hello, If your revolver has a cartouche on the left grip and small letters stamped on various parts it would have been accepted by the Ordnance Department in July of 1864. Whether it was issued to a unit is another story. Revolver serial number 88268 and revolver serial number 89557 were both issued to Company A of the 13th Missouri Volunteer Cavalry but that does not mean yours was also issued to that same unit. If your revolver was not accepted by the Ordnance Department it was probably sold to the trade and may have found its' way into the war.
