Inherited an 1867 Remington Rolling Lock… serial number 568 on Rt side of frame….. brass hammer, brass breech cover… brass butt plate. And two of the three stock rings brass … no import marks or any European marks… no caliber marks … only the small number eight on barrel next to frame…. Do you think this was US made here…
By my understanding there were only 10,000 made here….. then contracted out to Norway and Sweden….. if this is US made …. Would it probably be 50-70 caliber? It’s in great functioning shape if you could get black powder loads… barrel rifling great….please tell me anything you know or advise where I could get more info…thanks so much

Re: Questions about 1867 rolling lock rifle
Are you sure the "brass" parts are really brass? Have you held a magnet to those parts to see if it sticks? I've never heard of those parts ever being brass, and if they were they'd never withstand the pressures of firing any rifle cartridge. My guess is someone removed those parts and plated them to make their rifle look this way. Please test them with a magnet and let me know the result. Pictures would sure help too!
