Model 25 barrel code

Post by NotStirred »

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I have an opportunity to pick up a Model 25 pump-action rifle. The serial number is 33XX, which puts it in the first year of production, i.e. 1923. The barrel code appears to be AP, which would indicate March 1923 manufacture. However, parts of the lettering appear to be rubbed off, such that the P looks more like an F. But F is not really possible, since that would make the production year 1937, which is past the end of production in 1935. I'm probably being a little paranoid, but just wanted to make sure that this hasn't been re-barreled or something.

Anyway, I've attached a picture of the date code below. Any insight would be really appreciated. Thank you in advance.

P.S. I'm picking up my first Remington this Saturday. It's a Model 17 20-gauge shotgun, made in 1920/1921 (first year), with serial 31XX and pre barrel code. So I'm excited about that!

Just as the A stamping is incomplete, the P is incomplete as well. It is for sure a P with the bottom arm swooping up.

Thank you, 600RemGuy. Does this mean that the markings look legit?

Just a thought!

Be sure the Model 25 works properly..............like loads, feeds, fires, and ejects properly. If it doesn't do all of those things then you will essentially have a wall hanger. Finding anyone who can work on these is one thing but finding the proper/needed parts is another story. Super-neat little rifles but they didn't make many so do yourself a favor and make sure it functions properly, they are NOT easy to work on!!!
