Hello, I'm new to the forum. I have an opportunity to pick up a Model 25 pump-action rifle. The serial number is 33XX, which puts it in the first year of production, i.e. 1923. The barrel code appears to be AP, which would indicate March 1923 manufacture. However, parts of the lettering appear to be rubbed off, such that the P looks more like an F. But F is not really possible, since that would make the production year 1937, which is past the end of production in 1935. I'm probably being a little paranoid, but just wanted to make sure that this hasn't been re-barreled or something.
Anyway, I've attached a picture of the date code below. Any insight would be really appreciated. Thank you in advance.
P.S. I'm picking up my first Remington this Saturday. It's a Model 17 20-gauge shotgun, made in 1920/1921 (first year), with serial 31XX and pre barrel code. So I'm excited about that!
