760 Gamemaster For-end Screw

Post by Yeti »

I inherited a 760 during the process to strip and clean it and I cannot remove the screw holding the for-end to the gun. I was able to loosen the screw and it is freely moving, but I cannot remove the screw from the for-end. It feels as though there is something still attached to the end of the screw.

I am also unable to remove the forearm itself from the action bar assembly. (I thought that with the screw being free I might be able to remove the entire wood for-end with the screw still attached to see what was going on with it), I have tried the cotton rag method and cycling the action however the for-end will not come off. I'm thinking that the for-end is seized on the assembly as well.

I'm hesitant to apply oil to that action as is, I didn't want the wood soaking it up.

Any advice would be appreciated. My initial thought is that the seat for the screw in the action bar assembly is seized on the screw and both the seat and the screw are now spinning freely.

Has anyone ran into this issue previously, and do you have any advice on resolving the issue?

The Action Bar Assembly has an insert in the front of it that the Forend Cap Screw is screwed into. I don't remember how this insert is installed into the Action Bar. I'm thinking that the insert might have come loose and is spinning with the screw. I would go easy on any repairs until the issue is figured out.

Tighten the screw to see if it will actually tighten, this might provide info. But do not tighten too much.

Push forward on the forearm while unscrewing the forend screw, this might apply just enough pressure to separate the parts.
