New Model Army Question

Post by bradgtr »

Hey Guys- (Jay)

I have a New Model Army (Actually it's a Rollin-White conversion, 46RF)..
the serial is 140,400.....the thing I was wondering...It's fully inspected with Cartouche and all relevent stamps but wasn't 140,400 past the civil war? Does this mean the gun was probably never issued or didn't see action?

Thanks so much,
Brad

According to Don Ware's book the gun was built in MARCH of 65 and it may or not have been issued. Does it have the Rollin White Patent date on the cylinder? If so it may have never been delivered to the Army and got involved in the S&W/REM cartridge conversion program? Jay Huber RSA

Jay-
I does have the Rollin-White patent on the cylinder.

Interesting thing is it came with a percussion cylinder and the original hamer...as well as the original holster (looks US CW issue but no cartouche or makers mark on the holster.

In any case, thanks for the info...I ordered the Large bore conversion book yesterday!
