I just inherited a Model 11, the serial number of which (located just forward of the trigger guard) is "26XX".
Let me know if you can supply date of manufacture.
Thanks,
Russell

Remington Autoloading Gun
With a serial number in the low four digits your gun would most likely be a Remington Autoloading Gun. When Remington Arms Co. introduced the John M. Browning designed semi-auto shotgun in 1905, it was called the Remington Autoloading Gun. When Remington Arms Co. was combined with Union Metalic Cartridge Co. as Remington Arms-Union Metalic Cartridge Co., circa 1911, they began calling the gun the Model 11. The company name was changed again circa 1920 when it became Remington Arms Co., Inc. and in 1934 the company became a subsideary of DuPont.

I'd be willing to bet that with a serial number that low it was made in 1906. If you have a digital camera and could post some pictures of the gun here and of the exact markings on the barrel, etc. it would help a lot in identification.
The early guns don't have lock-screws on the major screws on the sides of the receiver. I don't know when Remington began actually using the lock-screws, but the guns pictured up thru the 1923 catalogue don't show them and by the 1929 catalogue they are shown.
