.44 New Model

Post by alouw »

Could anyone tell me a bit about the markings on this revolver, in particular the meaning of the A, P and the 6 and 9 under the trigger guard?

Thanks,
Albert

S/N 76159 (Under barrel / left grip)
H Marking left next to hammer
A Marking right next to cylinder
A Marking on the barrel
A Marking on the triggerguard
Twice an A on the cylinder
P on the back of the cylinder

6 9 Under screw trigger guard

76159 on back of trigger guard

On Barrel just:

E. Remington & Sons. Ilion Newyork USA
New Model

Cartouche on left grip visible but unclear, very hard to read, the serial number is a wobbly bunch of numbers, not neatly in a row…

The letter marks you indicate are sub inspector marks. The 69 under the trigger guard screw is probably an assembly number however it appears to be a mistake and should be 59. the last two numbers of the serial number. The cartouche is final acceptance by the military inspector. Jay Huber RSA
