Remington Keene

Post by cz75bfr »

Hi,

I am new here. I have bought a Remington Keene yesterday.
It is very hard to find anything about this gun on the internet.
I believe it is a carabine (half stock) with a 25 inch barrel. No swivel rings.
I am not sure it is a genuine antique after dismanteling it.
The gun looks almost unfired. Lots of deep blue (almost black) On the outside there are the following markings: Bold E Remington sons etc. and patent dates. (No word about Keene) Left side of the receiver, rotated anti clockwise 45 above 70.
After dismantling the gun I see 2514 on the trigger guard (lower tang), and on the inside lust before the upper tang.. Under the barrel there is a tiny marking resembling a G. On the striker it says 52 and again 52. Old bold on a new gun?
Under the butt plate there is a long number struck in the wood. Backside of the butt plate as a course engraving saying something like 18 sam..... from 1963 Oscar Car...
The mag follower is a sort of ring the spring is supposed to be held in place with a sort of gutapercha, now it has hardened and is broken. Original?
Is this a genuine antique Remington Keene or is it a replica?
Where these replicated?
How to reload for this gun? I assume I need to start with 405 grain cast bullets and standard 45-70 cases loaded with black powder.

Thanks for reading all this.

There are no replicas of the Remington Keene, so far as I know. Could just be in great condition, except for what you mentioned.

Drop down to my March 24, 2006 entry and you will see info on the RK that I had just bought. It links over to another forum that has pictures. Mine is also like new. They were not very popular and therefore not used much. I have not shot mine, but I would go with a mild standard government blackpowder round with 405gr bullet.
