From what I can remember, the carbines were the first model 760's to use the newer generation type free float barrel.
I think that the transition from the barrel spacer to the free float trombone action was probably around 1968 in the full size rifles.
Its been a long time since I can remember seeing them new!
The parts between the earlier models and later models are mostly all interchangeable, the exception being the barrel lug and action - for the BDL being a different shape than the ADL.
Is it a carbine?

Re: Remington BDL 760 223 caliber
From what documentation I have the special order thing didn't happen until grice worked out many deals with Remington on the 7600s as far as a bld 223 they never made them only in the old stardard grade with the zigzag pattern on forend..most likley someone had the gun with beat up wood bought some on gunbroker and put them on the gun to get a higher price I've seen many guns on there where you have barrel code from the 50s and basket weave on wood
