Rifles in that serial range were generally made in 1914. Marking the model, first on the barrel, and later on the receiver did not start until around 1919. The earlier 14s had a steel shotgun style buttplate or a hard rubber one, both shaped the same. Your rifle probably had the hard rubber version, which was easy to break or chip. There's no good answer. If it was in rough shape (shooter only) reblueing and/or restocking doesn't hurt much, but you'll never get the costs of the changes back.
