Need help dating my 700

Letter "E" October, Letter "M" 1965. Date code and serial number match perfectly to that dating.

Ok, I got that but what about the "D" or the "P". I would love to agree with your date but these other letters don't make sense.

The date he gave you is CORRECT. The other letters are inspectors' stamps or whatever. If you found the chart for the date codes, then you should have seen the explanation for the stamps in the graphic just above it.

I KNOW the date code is correct because I have two 700 ADLs that were made the following month......November 1965......one in .30-06 and the other is a .270. And, their serial numbers are slightly higher than the one you have.

I would also say there has been some altering with the chunks taken out of the barrel lug in front of the receiver. Ouch!
