remington model 550-1

Post by s_grady97 »

I have a Remington model 550-1 rifle. I would like to know where I can find the serial number. The top of the barrel is stamped: REMINGTON ARMS CO. INC. ILION, N.Y.-MADE IN U.S.A. WILLIAMS PATENTS NOS. 2,027,892-2,090,656 OTHERS PENDING MODEL 550-1. The top of the barrel behind the rear site is stamped Remington REG US PAT OFF, Stamped on the left side of the barrel behind the rear site is: .22 SHORT, LONG OR LONG RIFLE. On the left side of the barrel, just in front of the receiver are the letters WUU T. This rifle is in working order, but is not pretty to look at. I intend to shoot it, and I don't care what it is worth. I am just interested in its history. Any information anybody can give me on this rifle is welcome. Thanks, Grady.

Grady:

You're in the Pre-1898 area. I found it by accident. Your question belongs in the modern era...

Anyway, your rifle is probably not serial numbered. Look in this website under barrel codes. It should help you with month and year of production.
